Mary Lou — The Performer
After losing her mother in 2006, Mary Lou’s corporate career took a dramatic turn. While writing her best seller memoir of her mom, The God Box, she joined with veteran playwright and director Martha Wollner to co-write a companion solo show The God Box, A Daughter’s Story . The show, performed by Mary Lou, is heading into its 12th year, drawing raves from audiences from Off Broadway to dozens of US cities, including a month of four and five star performances at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe and three tours of Ireland and Northern Ireland’s greatest theaters.
While touring The God Box, she and Martha co-wrote a second play called Work, spilling the truth about women’s careers.
Currently, the pair are deep in development on a new ensemble play, based on a true story of women struggling and surviving the not-quite-liberated ‘70s of suburban Philadelphia. They hope to mount early productions of this show later this year.
After winning a charity version of Dancing with the Stars in 2015, Mary Lou started training seriously in ballroom dancing and ever since has been competing in American rhythm and smooth styles with her professional trainer and partner world finalist Mayo Alanen.
Mary Lou also has a series of TV credits, as one of the star judges on the first season of ABC-TV/Simon Cowell’s primetime series American Inventor, as a correspondent for the CBS EARLY Show and as a featured guest on dozens of news and entertainment shows
